Kata 7 - Making decisions

In every collaboration, decisions must be made together. The choice of approach or method has a major influence on whether the decision is made quickly and purposefully or whether the team gets bogged down in endless discussions without reaching a common consensus.

Preparation (individual work)

  • Read the Kata "Making a decision" (below) and do the exercises.

Agenda (circle/group work)

  • Check-in: (10 minutes)
    What has been on your mind this past week in relation to digital collaboration?
    Two-minute timebox per Circle member.

  • Main topic: (45 minutes)

Present your results and findings from "Kata 7 - Making a decision" (below) to each other and discuss them.

  • Check-out: (5 minutes)
    What will you do before the next meeting?

Kata "Making decisions"

  • Read the theory

  • How does decision-making take place digitally in your team, your workplace (if you don't meet in person)?

  • What is going well?

  • What is not going so well?

  • What methods/tools do you use for this?

  • Think about how you ask the question. (Theory: Types of questions)

  • Find a suitable tool for your question and try it out in the Circle

Choose a tools/method to make a decision on your question. Take another look at Kata 4 - Choose a suitable channel.

If you want to do more

  • Familiarize yourself with other tools and methods and think about where you could use them.

  • Research further methods for decision-making and try them out in the next meetings of your Circle or in your team.

  • Reflect on the result in the relevant group to see whether this method has helped you come to a decision.
