Kata 9
Kata 9 - Find knowledge
Learning journey through knowledge management
In the next three Katas, we embark on a joint learning journey through levels of knowledge management (see section "Knowledge management: a learning journey through four maturity levels" in the theory section). Our focus here is primarily on the first three levels:
-
Finding existing knowledge
-
Valuing shared knowledge
-
Share your own knowledge
These exercises will help you to improve your skills in dealing with knowledge and accompany you step by step on your path to becoming an active knowledge giver. And every journey begins with a first, small step.
Welcome on board for your knowledge journey!
In this Kata, we focus on finding existing knowledge. It is the first and most important step in expanding your knowledge base. You will learn how to efficiently use search engines, databases or discussion forums to find relevant knowledge.
Start by consciously looking for information that can help you in your work. It can be helpful to look through internal resources such as manuals or knowledge databases.
The aim of this Kata is to recognize that the knowledge you are looking for is often already available - you just have to find the right sources.

What will you do before the next meeting?
Kata "Finding knowledge: How can you benefit from the knowledge of others?"
-
To get started in this area, take a look at the basics of knowledge management.
-
Under Knowledge - Formats you will find different ideas on how others have shared their knowledge:
-
Find examples of where and how information and knowledge is shared in your company.
-
Are there any other formats that you know from your private life?
-
Write down all the formats and types you know.
-
-
How could you share your knowledge with other formats in your work environment so that others can benefit from it? Write down all the types and formats that are available to you in your work environment - even if you can't implement each of them right now (e.g. create a post in your Viva Engage community).
-
Get specific:
-
How and where have you found your knowledge so far?
-
Who shared the knowledge?
-
How was the knowledge shared (type, format)?
-
What did you notice?
-
Exchange information within your Circle about where you find your knowledge, who shares it and whether you use different sources.
-
-
Search for specific forums/communities on your topics within your company and show your interest by actively joining them. A small first step is often enough. Have the courage.
If you want to do more :
-
If you haven't found anything on a topic yet, why not post a question on the topic in forums/communities?
-
Were you satisfied with the content you found? Evaluate for yourself which sources are valuable to you.
